History repeated and only a year or so later Cindy gave birth to another child. Cindy and the baby were at a ministry home for unwed mothers that was run by the Salvation Army. One of the other babies that touched our lives forever is Sarah. When her mother first came to the House of Magdalene, she was barely eighteen years old. Sandi was, to say the least, a firecracker. The Lord gave me a love for Sandi that continues to this day. We have been friends for more than forty years and we stay in touch on a regular basis. Sandi, like so many others, was in and out of the House of Magdalene several times. One particular time when Sandi had left the House of Magdalene, we put the kids in the car and went searching for Sandi. We knew some of the places she hung out and there she was, walking down Sunset Boulevard figuring out what her next move would be. Sandi tells the story about that day. When she got into our car, our youngest daughter, Emily, asked her why she kept running away. Then teary-eyed Emily told Sandi that we love her and don’t want her to run away again. There is no need to tell all the details of each girl’s life. Just know that Sandi and others had a rough start to life and had to fend for themselves at a very young age. They don’t set out to become runaways. After a short period of time, of knowing Sandi, we were sitting on the steps of a church on Hollywood Boulevard, Sandi let me know that she was pregnant. My emotions were everywhere with that news. I was happy, I was sad. Sandi was so young and so alone. Several of the members of the ministry staff didn’t believe Sandi
