Sing Into Your Storm
The song of Jehoshaphat
“the battle belongs to the lord ”
ehoshaphat was a descendant king from the line of David, of the tribe of Judah (Praise). He was a godly King, set upon cleansing his nation of idolatry. He dispatched the Levite priests across the land to teach the people God’s Law. But along the path of his kingship, he made a serious mistake and aligned himself with King Ahab (Jezebel’s husband) and trusted in the multitude of Ahab’s prophet s. The Kings of Israel & Judah inquired of these prophets whether they should go to war and capture Ramoth-Gilead. Ahab’s prophets all said “go to war”. If they had only set themselves to hear God’s voice truly they would have known better, for there was a proven (accurate) prophet in the land named Micaiah who told them the campaign would end in utter ruin! But they went to war at Ramoth-Gilead and suffered great loss, disgrace and disaster. King Jehoshaphat had chosen to listen to the prophets of Baal instead of the prophets of God, like Micaiah, or even another true prophet of the Lord named Jehu who arose and came with a sincere reproach to the king for the course he had been taking: “When Jehoshaphat king of J udah returned safely to his palace in Jerusalem, Jehu the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you. There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and set your heart on seeking God."(2 Chronicles 19:1-3)
