Sing Into Your Storm ~ Overcoming Adversity Through High Praise
The song of Habakkuk
“though the fig tree fails to blossom…”
he Prophet Habakkuk lived in a very perilous time in Israel. It was under the rule of King Jehoiakim who had led the nation back into severe idolatry and far away from the Lord God. As a result, the nation was at the precipice of impending judgment that would soon come in the form of Israel being taken into captivity into the land of Babylon. Habakkuk had seen the starvation of young and old, the cannibalism of children, the destruction of Solomon’s Temple, and the inevitable end of his country as he knew it… It was a very grim time! Habakkuk was forced to decide whether to fall into a sea of despair or to rise up in bold faith and press through the circumstances by choosing to worship the Lord in the midst of the storm. He made the choice to rejoice! Worship is a choice! The criteria for choosing to worship God isn’t based on how good things are presently going in our lives, so that, if life is good, we praise, and if life is bad, we sulk.
The Word of God instructs us to:
“Bless the L ORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the L ORD ; The humble shall hear of it and be glad!
