their ship had been struck by another ship, and 226 people drowned, including Horatio’s four daughters…Of his family, only his wife had survived. He made plans to join her as quickly as he could - over in Europe. By now I was completely undone by the story as I drove to our care provider’s, listening to this unbelievable story of the back to back tragedies this man endured… and of his persevering faith! To even lose a son would be devastating enough, but to then lose most of your property and wealth would seemmore than most could bear – especially all at once! And then to learn that he also lost all four of his daughters as well? I wept as I listened to this amazing story... I remember looking at my beautiful little lamb, Rachel Ann- Marie (that’s Ann-Marie with a hyphen) and just tried to imagine the deep pain and sorrow I would feel if I ever lost something so precious to me as this little one – while realizing this man had lost five Rachel’s! Little did I know that at that very moment, the Lord was preparing my heart through this incredible story of tragedy and loss - because in a few weeks, I too, was about to lose my little lamb – Rachel Ann-Marie. On board the ship now and heading to Europe, Horatio asked the Captain of the ship if he would come wake him up when the ship passed over the sea grave of his daughters (since most ships followed the exact same routes). In the early morning hours, the Captain came and got Horatio and let him know they would be passing over that area where his daughter’s ship had gone down in just a matter of Back to the story…
