4) But Israel who should have been ready for Messiah…had

ignored God’s extended hand of salvation to them and has

become disobedient and “gainsaying” (contradicting all God

was saying to them…refusing to receive it or believe it).

Conclusion: Paul has clarified G od’s extended salvation to Israel and their refusal to receive

it. They had persisted in trying to work out their own righteousness before God. God had preached

his word (rhema) in the power of the Holy Spirit to them (Acts 2) but they refused to let faith arise in

their hearts so they could be saved. So God is going to use the Gentile nations to provoke them and

to wake them up to their need to receive their salvation in their Messiah, Jesus Christ.
