ROMANS Study Guide
a) The ways and thinking of the flesh life only brings death
(Spiritual separation from the life of God) (vs.13)
b) Instead, Paul says we are to mortify (kill or put to death) …
the deeds (urges, self-desires) of the body (flesh life) that
need to be denied or disciplined… then you will “live”
(Enjoy the life of Christ manifesting in and through you)
(1) It needs to be understood that our “soul man” can and
will be transformed by God’s power and life. As we
cooperate with the Spirit’s discipline and training and
sometimes His breaking of our soulish nature (our
mind, our emotions and our will)… our soul will be
healed, renewed and aligned with God’s mind and
heart.
(2) This process is call ed “spiritual maturing” … growing up
in Christ…nothing is more important after our salvation
than to commit ourselves to becoming spiritually
mature in our walk in Christ (1Cor.3:1-3; Heb.5:12-14)
(3) Here Paul is saying that as we grow up our “inner man”
(Soul life) in Christ… then we will begin to know and
experience the full life we have in Christ Jesus. (vs.13)
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Rom 8:15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba, Father! Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. Rom 8:17 And if we are children, then we are heirs; heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ; so that if we suffer with Him , we may also be glorified together.
Key to Victorious Living is knowing you are family!
