overnight. He made mistakes but learned from them and discovered

God’s faithfulness to his word.

d. His faith was promised based (word based): vs.21

Abraham chose to focus on God’s word and not his circumstances or

ability. He had become convinced – Isaac was a “fact” in Abrahams

heart years before his birth.

5. Paul presses the point that Abraham’s faith is an example for

us to emulate … if we believe like him then…

a. God wi ll also “reckon it” ( Logizomai : to put into an account, to

consider it in your account) credit it to us as righteousness which we

never earned.

b. This is “resurrection faith” – life from the impossible or the dead.

(vss.24-25)

Conclusion: This is a crucial part of Paul’s argument because if the world is to receive the

blessing and salvation of God by works through Abraham’s decedents (Gen.12:3), then God’s plan

would have to include the Gentiles becoming Jews (proselytes) according to the law. But if the

blessing came by faith as Abraham demonstrated then it could be received by faith alone apart from

the law.
