ROMANS Study Guide
Rom 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body already dead (being about a hundred years old) or the deadening of Sarah's womb. Rom 4:20 He did not stagger at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God, Rom 4:21 and being fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was also able to perform. Rom 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Rom 4:23 Now it was not written for him alone that it was imputed to him, Rom 4:24 but for us also to whom it is to be imputed, to the ones believing on Him who has raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead. Rom 4:25 who was delivered because of our offenses and was raised for our justification.
4. Four components to Abraham’s Faith: How to recognize Great Faith
a. A faith that knows God :
In verse 17 it says that God already regarded Abraham as the
father of many nations. But Abraham had to step into what God
had already determined and embrace his calling. This required
that Abraham believe and trust God in his journey to the promised
land.
Abraham was coming to the place of knowing that GOD could bring
life from death (Sarah’s dead womb) and call into being things that
did not yet exist. (vs.17b) His faith was rooted in a personal God,
one he trusted and who he knew could do anything.
b. His faith was not based on circumstances or himself :
In verses 18-20 Abraham had a good appreciation that
His having a baby was humanly impossible. His focus must not be
on what he could do but ion what God could do. He was weak but
God was strong. (Hope - Elpis : joyful, confident expectation
towards the future)
c. His faith was a growing faith: vs.20
Abraham “became strong in faith…” The journey from Abram
(Exalted father) to Abraham (father of nations) was not done
