Holy to God).

3) Paul has a reason to “boast in Christ” of his success and the

work he has done among the Gentile peoples.

a) But he won’t boast of what he has not done but only of those

things Christ has actually done through him (vs.18)

b) Illyricom: The general area of Asia Minor (Turkey to Italy

up to the boarders of Austria and the Black Sea region)

…From Jerusalem to Illyricom had been Paul’s “virgin field

of work” … going where no one else had gone.

(1) Paul had preached “fully” the gospel to this region…

(2) With the supernatural help of the Holy Spirit…Paul had

powerfully preached and demonstrated the Gospel (refer

to 1Cor.2:1-5; Mark 16:15-20

(3) Paul had “strived” (made an effort of honor) … to go

where others had not gone with the gospel already... to

avoid building on another man’s foundations.

(a) Paul lays out the principle for his action by quoting generally, Isa.52:15…that where no one had ever heard about God…they will see and understand God. (b) Because of this ministry goal…he was hindered or prevented in coming to the Roman church sooner.

Rom 15:22 For this cause I also have been greatly hindered from coming to you. Rom 15:23 But now, having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come to you, Rom 15:24 whenever I may go into Spain, I will come to you. For in traveling through I hope to see you, and to be set forward there by you, if first I may be filled of you in part.
