and then quotes loosely Isa. 59:20 in which the prophet predicts
that messiah will turn all God’s people back to God in faith and
righteousness.
1) Paul uses another quote from Jer.31:33-34 that God is
committed to saving his people from their sins.
2) For now… Paul points out that the nation is an enemy (literally
hateful) in resisting the gospel (and the church in its present
mission)
3) But for the eternal purposes of God and His love and commitment
to the Patriarchs… the nation is beloved (dear) to God.
a) Paul points out a principle that God does not retract his gifts (charisma… spiritually given gifts) and callings (invitations). Once given they stay given and waiting to be received and use. Vs.29 b) God has decided that all (Jew and Gentile) are to be “ Shut up” (gather in like a fishing net) in mercy: all must Come by grace through faith.
Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out! Rom 11:34 For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? Rom 11:35 Or who first gave to Him, and it will be repaid to him? Rom 11:36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things; to Him be glory forever! Amen.
3. Paul ends this chapter with praise and worship for the amazing wisdom
and work God is doing in and through Jesus Christ and his Church.
vss.33-36
a. God’s ways (his wisdom and knowledge) are too deep, to
unsearchable and his plans and purposes and determinations
past our ability to understand them.
