Focus on Groups: St. Martha’s Guild and the OLF Building Committee

Regarding chapel management, the group system falls into two broad areas: the temporal (aka building), and the spiritual (aka Catholic culture and the Liturgical year). The building aspect of group management encompasses things associated with the physical plant. Lots of groups tackle various jobs–like church cleaning–but this month’s focus is on the unsung members of the OLF Building Committee. Since our move in 2020, this group has been overseeing the renovation of the building so that, once completed, it is a reflection of a truly Catholic edifice; not an easy process by any means. They, along with the Holy Name Society, also take on projects that help bring OLFsters to a place where true Christian community can blossom. Which brings us to the spiritual aspect. Where would Western Civilization be without the Catholic Church? All national cultures have contributed to building the world in areas like the arts and sciences largely because of the influence of Catholicism. These cultural traditions celebrate the Liturgical Year in various ways, and are all ways that keep our eyes and hearts on Our Lord, the Blessed Mother, and the saints. At OLF, the St. Martha’s Guild brings these cultural contributions alive by hosting themed events throughout the year to heighten our awareness and deepen our understanding of the Faith. The All Saints Revue, Las Posadas, and the Lenten Soup Suppers are among the activities hosted by the Guild. Some members of both groups are parents (many of young families) who volunteer their time from an already busy life for the benefit of our OLF community. Thank you to them and all our committee volunteers!
