Chapter Eleven

Moving To Del City

1976:

A nother transition season began in 1976, with a

phone call from the board of First Assembly of God

Church in Del City, Oklahoma, inviting us for an

interview to become their pastors. Jean and I prayed

about it and felt we needed to accept the invitation for

an interview. We were preparing to make the trip, when

a board member called and said that Pastor Phillip

Sharp, who had recommended us, had decided to stay.

I was disappointed, because Jean and I were quite sure

we had heard from God, concerning the move. I was so

depressed that I went to bed and covered up my head at

3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Gentle Jean came in and

asked , “ what are you doing in bed in the middle of the

afternoon?” I told her I was depressed. She responded

by saying that our youth pastors, Don and Kay Couch,

were on their way to our house and instead of going to

Del City, we were going to our favorite Italian

restaurant, Mama Mia’s.
