In 2000, we took a leap of faith and started

ministering twice weekly on national television, calling

America to pray. Rick Gentry did an excellent job

serving as my assistant. During this time, we continued

to travel to different churches. On one occasion, we led

several nights of revival at Faith Christian Center in

Arlington, Texas for Pastor Gene Lingerfelt. One night,

my friend, Charles Martin, came to a service and played

a worship song on his saxophone before I ministered.

We had prayer in Dr. Lingerfelt’s office before the

service, and Charles saw a picture of a famous

saxophone player, by the name of Vernard Johnson. He

asked the pastor if he knew Vernard, and he responded

by saying, “ he is a close friend of mine.” Charles was quite

surprised and told the pastor that Vernard Johnson had

been his hero and mentor since he was a boy. He

dreamed of meeting him one day and playing their

saxophones together. Before the service the next night,
