5. It happens when we set our minds on things above.
The Apostle Paul challenged the Colossian believers to “set their mind on things above.” The important thing to receive from this is that renewing our minds is not a passive endeavor. It is not something that we hope will occurs as we “hang out” with other believers. It is not something that just happens, we have to “set our minds.” We have to take the initiative. We have to run after it and pursue it. We have to make it a focus. Colossians 3:1-3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above , not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Experiencing a renewing of the mind means that we have to fight daily for our thought life. We need to set the agenda for what is going to dominate our thinking. Are we going to dwell on words of faith or are we going to let fear control our thinking? This warfare involves rejecting thinking that opposes the truth and fostering thinking that supports the truth of God’s Word. Philippians 4:8, NIV Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
6. We must dwell on things that are true, right and pure.
