5. The unrenewed mind is focused on earthly or temporal things.

We live in a temporal world that is bound by time and space. Our tendency is to think of things only in terms of how it will affect us now or how it will affect our immediate situation. God lives in eternity and has an overview of the universe that spans all of time. He has a plan that began long before we were born and will extend to long past our lifetime and into eternity future. Philippians 3:18-19, NIV For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. As we allow God to renew our minds, He helps us to understand how our actions affect others, how our actions correspond to His grand purpose and how what we do can make a difference not just in the here and now, but for all time. Question to Ponder: “After looking at the five characteristics of an unrenewed mind, do you see any of these things still lingering in your experience?”
