3. Renewal of the mind is important because sin stems or proceeds from wrong thinking.

Matthew 15:18-19, NLT But evil words come from an evil heart and defile the person who says them. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all other sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. The word “heart” in the Bible is used in a variety of ways when referring to the nature of man. One such way is that the heart is seen as the source of our thinking processes (Deut. 9:4; Est. 4:13; Zech. 8:17). These thoughts in our heart are often driven by selfishness, pride and sinful appetites. God wants to purify our hearts to think the way He thinks.

Psalm 26:2, BBE Put me in the scales, O Lord, so that I may be tested; let the fire make clean my thoughts and my heart.
