Next Steps 2.0 - Moving To Maturity
Repentance and the Mind
In our previous study ( Next Steps 1.0 ) we learned that the first word of the Gospel is “repentance.” We also learned that repentance is not just being sorry for what we have done or saying the words “I am sorry,” but true repentance involves a complete life change. It involves a change in our mind, a change in our will and a change in our emotions. In this lesson we want to look at the change that is needed in our way of thinking or the necessity of having our minds renewed. When we surrender our lives to the Lord and become believers we are totally and immediately transformed or regenerated in our spirit-man. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in our spirit and we become a child of God; we become a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:17, 19). Unfortunately, our mind or thinking processes are not changed so immediately. In fact, when we become believers we are initiated into a process called “sanctification” that is directed by the Holy Spirit with the purpose that our soul-man (our mind, our will and our emotions) can experience the same transformation that our spirit-man has experienced. What is the renewal of the mind?
