The rectangular Fortress has four towers (one on each corner) said to be seventy-five feet high, except for the SE one which overlooked the Temple. It was 100 feet high. From these towers the Roman sentries maintain vigilant surveillance of the Temple activities below. If any disturbance is noticed, the garrison goes on alert and soldiers in battle gear are immediately dispatched downstairs that have direct access to the Temple precincts.
