Bold and vocal, Paul resists death and unbelief, demanding death depart and life return, just as Elijah and Elisha had done. The shocked crowd is appalled by this sudden, strange behavior! Then. . . . everyone gasps as the powerful prayer of faith is rewarded and life returns into the boy’s body! Paul’s next action is equally amazing: “Paul went back upstairs, served communion, and ate a meal with them. Then he picked back up where he left off and taught until dawn. Filled with enormous joy, they took the boy home alive and everyone was encouraged” (Acts 20:11, TPT). The next day Paul sends his team with the equipment and offering by ship to Assos (forty miles by water), their next stopping port. Paul, however, insists on taking the Roman road — walking the twenty miles by foot alone. Paul is accustomed to spending much time with his associates, but he also needs to be alone with his thoughts, plans and contemplations! Above all, Paul knows the importance of prayer and evaluating problems and situations alone with the Lord. Thankfully, the large monetary offering for the poor saints in Jerusalem is safe with his team of eight men; so Paul’s focus is now the Church of Christ at large.
