Heart of a Psalmist - Worshipping Christ Through The Psalms

world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they would not worship him as God or even give him thanks.” (Romans 1:20-21) All creation points to knowing, worshiping and thanking God!

The Sun Also Rises

“ The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete (strongman) eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.”(4-6 The similarities between the natural sun and the Son of God are the design of God’s hand. Just as the sun is heavenly, the Son of God came to us from heaven of heavens; ‘” For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me…”(Jn. 6:38) David compares the sun to a bridegroom as Christ is a bridegroom to the church he loves. “ Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and wel- come him!” (Mt. 25:6) Jesus is the ‘strongman’, the champion who triumphed over the works of Satan. “For when Satan, who is completely armed, guards his palace, it s safe-until someone who is stronger (strongman) attacks and overpowers him…”Luke 11:21,22) He finished his course by dying and rising again and now his glory, like the sun, eclipses the light and Law of the Prophets and fulfills all the prophetic writings of the Old Testament. 1. “ The law of the Lord… This refers to the whole writings of scripture; a. is perfect - spotless, and directed towards the well-being of mankind i. (converting) reviving the soul - imparting new life 2. “ The (testimonies) decrees of the Lord – as in the Ten Commandments a. are trustworthy - raised above all doubt in warnings and promises i. making wise the simple - the open-hearted 3. “ The (precepts) commandments of the Lord - concerning man’s obligation a. are right - leading on a straight way i. bringing joy to the heart - satisfies a moral longing 4. “ The commands of the Lord - this is the inner intentions of his commandments a. are (pure) clear - like the light of the sun i. giving insight to life - making the mind and body healthy and fresh 5. “ Reverence for the Lord - what God’s revelation demands, the way he is respected a. is pure - clean, as pure gold i. lasting forever - enduring all false forms of reverencing God 6. “ The (judgments) laws of the Lord - God’s just decisions about life a. are true - unchangeable moral foundation i. each one is fair - appropriate according to his laws and will 2 ” • They are to be DESIRED above everything in this world! “ They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.”(10) Not only gold but also great volumes of gold which has been pursued by mankind since the beginning of time. • They are SWEETER than anything in this world! “ They are sweeter than honey, even honey drip- ping from the comb.”(10) • They are WARNINGS to keep us safe! “ They are a warning to those who hear them;”(11) • They are REWARDING for those who heed them! “…there is great reward for those who obey them.”(11) Not just a reward but a generous, abundant reward! II SWEETER THEN HONEY - The Gospel of Commandments- 7-11 The psalmist moves from the wonderment of creation to the word of God that reveals his will to mankind. There are six facets of the word presented here along with a corresponding quality and result.
