Heart of a Psalmist - Worshipping Christ Through The Psalms

David experienced marvelous victories over all of the surrounding nations: “ After this, David sub- dued…the Philistines…David also destroyed the forces of the …King of Zobah, …the Arameans became David’s subjects…So the Lord gave David victory wherever he went.” (2 Sam. 8:1-6) The Son of David’s kingdom is much greater as he conquers the nations with the good news of his love and truth. “ There- fore, go and make disciples of all the nations…”(Mt. 28:19) “ For this, O Lord, I will PRAISE YOU AMONG THE NATIONS; I will sing joyfully to your name. You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descen- dants forever.”(49,50) Jesus is the sovereign ruler and singer among the nations. Paul quotes verse 49 in his letter to the Romans to assure them that it has always been in the purpose of God that his Messiah-King, the de- scendant of David would rule the nations with his grace and that there would be a universal release of praise and worship bringing joy to every land. “ Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God is true to the promises he made to their ancestors. And he came so the Gentiles might also give glory to God for his mercies to them. That is what the psalmist meant when he wrote: ‘I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing praises to your name.’”(Rom. 15:8,9; Ps.18:49) God’s great passion to see the nations glorifying his Son should be the passion of his servants also.

PSALM 19: THE HEAVENS TELL THE GLORY OF GOD The Gospel of Creation

Psalm 19 ranks as one of the most popular and quoted of all the psalms. It reveals God in three distinct ways: through his creation, through his commandments and through man’s conscience. In cre- ation, we know the wonderment of God, through his commands we can know the will of God and through our conscience we experience the work of God. There are three great studies undertaken here, the book of the World, the book of God’s Word, and the epistle of the human heart. As the stars, the clouds and the sun witness each day to the entire world, the word of God is to be proclaimed to every person’s conscience!

I THE HEAVENS TELL - The Gospel of Creation- 1-6

“ The heavens tell the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak with out a sound or a word; their voice is silent in the skies; yet their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to all the world. (1-4) The heavens declare the glory of ‘Elohim’, is the beginning of this psalm. This is the name of God associated with creation. 7 more times God is mentioned in the psalm but by his redemptive name Yah- weh. All of creation points to the ultimate purpose of redeeming mankind. Two levels of the heavens are expressed here; first the celestial heavens, the realm of the stars and glories of the nighttime universe. David knew these well as he watched his father’s flocks by night. Looking at stars causes our minds to think of the infiniteness of God. The aerial heavens are the second dimension and are the realm of clouds, flying things, sunrises and sunsets and countless wonders. These are all speaking through the gate of the eye that causes amazement, not the gate of the ear that causes faith 1 . “ From the time the
