truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. For us as Christians to succeed in spiritual warfare, we must first understand that we are not to use weapons from this world. We are to use spiritual weapons. One of the most powerful spiritual weapons that we as Christians have in our arsenal is the weapon of praise. In the minor prophet book Amos, we see clearly the power of restoring Davidic worship. That praise will actually aid in driving out the enemy. Amos 9:12 says, “That they may possess the remnant of Edom…” The Hebrew meaning for the word possess is yaresh . This word means “to occupy by driving out the previous tenants.” 15 In 2 Chronicles 20, Ammon, Moab, and others came to battle against King Jehoshaphat. He was outnumbered many times, and his army didn’t have near the weapons the enemy had. After hearing this bad news, Jehoshaphat began to seek the Lord as to what he should do. The Spirit of the Lord came upon a prophet named Jahaziel, and he brought forth the Word of the Lord. The king responded in obedience, and he appointed singers who would worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
