God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
Chapter Two
A People of Holy Passion
T oday we are witnessing many who are passionately pursuing pleasure. People are without self-control, being led astray by various lusts of the flesh. Our society is marked by a people whose passions are uncontrolled, like a raging river or wildfire — it knows no boundaries. This is reflective of a hedonistic society. The following are some of the passions of our day: 1. A passion for material things This is a pursuit of ever-increasing possessions, yet not being satisfied. “What I have now is never enough.” “I won’t be happy unless I can buy…” “In order for others to recognize my success, I need...” These mindsets lead us to pouring our passion into acquiring more money, a bigger house, or more luxurious vehicles. Current TV shows such as Succession (HBO) or Billions (Showtime) characterize aspects of the drive for material things in our society today. 2. A passion for drugs and alcohol With the breaking up of so many families, thousands are trying to escape the reality of life and pain through the use of alcohol and drugs. The only difference today from past years is that drugs are becoming more and more lethal. Instead of merely having to deal with a little amount of marijuana in schools, teachers are faced with heroin, fentanyl, and many other lethal drugs which are killing students throughout the campuses of our nation. More and more younger alcoholics are walking the streets of our neighborhoods. With addictions running at epidemic levels in our homes, communities, and nation we find individuals will use any means to feed their addiction.
