God's Prophetic People
a. Worship (passion for God) b. Intercession (passion for people) c. Application of God’s Word to people (pastoral feeding, blessing, care, etc.)
C. PROPHETS
1. To be a watchman (Ezekiel 3:17; 33:7; Hosea 9:8; Habakkuk 2:1) One who watches for the revelations of the Lord. 2. To give guidance (Moses, Samuel, Elisha) 3. To be God's spokesman . To announce God's plans and purposes. a) Forthtell – Speaking to the present situation, often appealing to the past in order to pointedly address the present. b) Foretell – Predictive of future events. This was/is often conditional upon the response of the hearer. 4. To call people and nations to repent of their ways (I Samuel 12:1-15, Isaiah 58:1; 40:1-2; Jeremiah 4; Malachi 4:4) 5. To speak and write scripture (Daniel, Ezra, Isaiah, Moses etc.)
II. THE FULFILLMENT IN CHRIST JESUS
A. Jesus Christ as KING
1. Prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6) “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” 2. Prophesied by David (Psalm 110:1-7) “The LORD said to my Lord. Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of your strength out of Zion.”
