It’s a powerful sense because it helps us determine what’s enjoyable or nourishing for our bodies — and what might be unappetizing or even harmful. odor. Some things really smell good. For example, think of yourself walking beside a large group of rose bushes and taking a deep breath, inhaling the beautiful aroma of this flower. Now think of yourself grabbing the first dandelion and bringing it to your nose and smelling it for the first time. What a disappointment. Do you remember? It actually stunk, didn’t it? It sure looked nice, yet when you placed this flower close to your nose and smelled it, it was not an enjoyable experience. and each of us has our own preferences when it comes to what we listen to. Some people enjoy the calm, soothing melodies of symphonic music, while others prefer the energy of fast-paced rock. Some like their music played at a low volume, while others crank up the volume to feel the full intensity. Hearing is a vital sense; it alerts us to danger, allows us to hear someone call us for a meal, lets us enjoy the sound of birds signaling the arrival of spring, and even helps us detect the emotion in someone’s voice. These sounds give us important cues about the world around us and help us make sense of reality. It’s clear that all five senses— sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing — shape how we perceive the world.
