Third , a prophetic perspective will give us the needed insight on where to point our ship. What direction do we need to go? I had the pleasure of living in a beautiful port city, Vancouver, British Columbia. It was such a pretty place, and one of the main ports on the west coast of North America. I remember watching ship after ship coming in and exiting the big harbor. Once in a while there would be a fog which would roll in and things would get a little hectic for the captains as they tried to maneuver their ships through it. During these times, it was crucial that the captain’s instructions were heard very precisely and exactly. Many people in the Body of Christ have started out their journey and a little bit of fog has settled in on their lives and ministries. It is during these times especially that you need to have a prophetic perspective to know how and where to point your vessel. Where is your ship pointed? Have you run up on some rocks before? Are you one of the millions who are dwelling aimlessly? Developing a prophetic perspective will help you in specifically pointing your ship to reach its destination, and also help you through times when the fog rolls in on your life. Fourth , a prophetic perspective will help you recognize correct currents of wind. Christopher Columbus was known as "the master of the winds." Many doubted him and even mocked his belief that the world was round and that a ship could sail around it. Yet, God had given Columbus a unique ability to read the winds. He knew when to raise his sails and when to bring them down. He understood when the winds were favorable and when they were hostile. If a captain raised his sails at the wrong time, with a destructive wind approaching, it could lead to devastating damage to the ship.
In the same way, as Christians, we must learn to discern the winds that are blowing through the Church. Not every
