God's Prophetic People - A People of Passion, Purpose And Power
God's Prophetic People
God illuminates a specific word from the Bible, bringing it to life in a way that speaks directly to you. This is known as a rhema word. It happens when, as you're reading Scripture, a particular passage seems to jump out at you, almost as if it's highlighted. A rhema word is a personal, timely message from God, meant to speak to an individual or a group in a particular situation or circumstance. Dr. Ironside, a prolific Bible commentator, defines the Bible ( logos ) as “the said word of God.” The rhema , on the other hand, is “the saying word of God.” 18 D. Receiving a Prophetic Word (Acts 13:1-3; 9:10-18; Ephesians 4:11; Hebrews 6:1-2) Many people within the Body of Christ have received prophetic words. In the fellowship I belong to, prophets and prophetic ministers are often invited to a church on an annual basis to minister over their leadership and congregational members. This was done by the early Church as well. In Acts 13:1-3 we see this: “Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.” In 1 Timothy 4, Paul makes reference to this when writ- ing to his son in the faith. He exhorts Timothy in this way: “Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Med- itate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all” (1 Timothy 4:14 -15). I remember different times when a prophetic word came to me and how the Lord spoke directly to me through His prophets. It was truly life changing for me. God began to speak
