the LORD, because his mercy endureth forever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood” (emphasis added). 2 Chronicles 13:10: “But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business. ” (emphasis added). Today we live in such a fast-paced, instant society that we have missed out on many things that are important to the Lord. God is always longer on preparation than He is on service. For God’s prophetic people to be all they are called to be, we have to learn to wait on the Lord. The Hebrew word for wait is math , which literally means to stand; to stand before the Lord. 20 Waiting on Him for whatever order or direction He wants to give. It means to stand still and firm. Our primary act of worship must be to minister to the Lord — taking time to wait in His presence and offering ourselves in our service and ministry. A wise father figure in the Lord, Ern Baxter, once shared with me in the later years of his life that he regretted not everything he had done in ministry was directly ordered by God. Not all the crusades, meetings, or conferences were part of His perfect will. I was stunned when I first heard this, but I understood the depth of his words. In our zeal to promote the Lord and expand His kingdom, we must be careful not to settle for just doing good things, but to ensure we are doing God’s things — things that are truly ordained by Him.
