In mercy the Lord permitted – with careful restrictions - the granting of a divorce in both Old Testament (Mark 10:4; Matthew 5:31; Deuteronomy 24:1) and also New Testament (Matthew 5:32; 1 Corinthians 7:15). Jesus taught, however, that God originally intended that a husband and wife should not be separated or "put asunder" (Mark 10:4-9). 8. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR REASONS FOR DIVORCE IN OUR SOCIETY?
