Paul clearly defines the New Testament Church as one that worships "in the spirit" (Philippians 3:3); he also links Ephesians 5:19 (which discusses worship) with "be filled with the Spirit" (v. 18). The term "spiritual songs" suggests songs born spontaneously of the Spirit (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19). We can sing with the Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:15). Allowing the Holy Spirit to quicken within us the Davidic forms of worship is truly a thrilling and inspiring experience.
