A. THE WORD OF GOD SAYS THEY ARE FORGIVEN! 1 John 1:9. B. THE SPIRIT OF GOD WITNESSES IN OUR HEARTS that we are forgiven! Romans 8:16; l John 4:13; 5:10. 5. WHAT IS THE WITNESS OF THE SPIRIT? When we have repented of our sins and accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour, God sends the Spirit of the Son into our hearts as a witness that we are now His children. God's Spirit causes our spirit to cry "abba Father" (an affectionate term) as a witness that we are now His. Mark 14:36; Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6. This experience comes AFTER faith, not before. Many people look for the testimony of the Spirit before they accept the testimony of God's written Word. This is an inversion of God's order. Trust in - rely upon – believe on - the bare Word of God. John 1:12. 6. HERE IS A SIMPLE, LOGICAL FORMULA FOR OBTAINING SPIRITUAL THINGS. First, a person must hear the FACTS. The facts then produce the FAITH in the mind of the hearer. Then, the faith produces the FEELING. This is the formula for obtaining forgiveness, healing or any other blessing from the Word. Romans 10:17. Remember: FACTS+ FAITH= FEELING (do not reverse formula)
