THE BENEFITS OF THE CROSS KEY VERSE: "But he was wounded for our transgressions: he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him: and with his stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:5. 1. WHAT IS MEANT BY THE "BENEFITS" OF THE CROSS? The benefits of the cross are those gifts which Jesus Christ purchased for me when He died upon the cross of Calvary. 2. WHAT ARE THESE BENEFITS? The benefits of the cross are these: A. FORGIVENESS OF SINS AND ETERNAL LIFE -"wounded for our transgressions" B. DELIVERANCE FROM INBRED INIQUITIES – "bruised for our iniquities" C. PEACE FOR THE MIND AND HEART - "the chastisement of our peace" D. HEALING FOR THE BODY "with his stripes we are healed" LESSON 1: WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS 1. WHY WAS CHRIST WOUNDED FOR OUR SINS? The Law of God demanded the shedding of blood in order to forgive man’s sin ("the wages of sin is death"). Hebrews 9:22. Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for the sins of mankind; He took our place before God and took the punishment for our sins. 1 Peter 2:24. 2. WHAT IS MEANT BY FORGIVENESS OF SINS AND ETERNAL LIFE? Forgiveness comes when the soul is cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ of all its mistakes, offenses and transgressions against God. Eternal life is live forever. It is the gift of God to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 9:22; John 5:24; Matthew 26:28. 3. HOW MAY I HAVE MY SINS FORGIVEN? Our sins are forgiven and forgotten by God when we confess our sins to Jesus Christ and ask His forgiveness for them. 1 John 1:7, 9; Isaiah 1:18; Psalms 103:12. 4. HOW CAN I KNOW MY SINS ARE FORGIVEN? There are TWO ways that we KNOW that our sins are forgiven:
