We believe that Jesus Christ is also true man because the Scriptures: A. EXPRESSLY CALL HIM MAN: 1 Timothy 2:5 -"the man Christ Jesus" B. ASCRIBE TO HIM A HUMAN BODY AND SOUL: Luke 24:39 -"Behold my hands and feet" Matthew 26:38 -"My soul is exceeding sorrowful" Hebrews l0:5 -"a body hast thou prepared me" C. ASCRIBE TO HIM HUMAN FEELINGS AND ACTIONS: Jesus slept (Mark 4:38), hungered (Matthew 4:2), thirsted (John 19:28), wearied (John 4:6), wept (John 11:35) and suffered and died (Matthew 26 and 27). 5. WHAT TWO NATURES, THEN, ARE UNITED IN CHRIST? The Divine and the human natures are united in Christ, both natures together forming one undivided and indivisible person (personal union). WHY WAS IT NECESSARY FOR OUR SAVIOUR TO BE TRUE MAN? It was necessary for our Saviour to be true man: A. THAT HE MIGHT TAKE OUR PLACE UNDER THE LAW: Galatians 4:4, 5 - "Made of a woman, made under the Law, to redeem" B. THAT HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO SUFFER AND DIE IN OUR STEAD: Hebrews 2:14 - "He also Himself likewise took part of the same" 7. WHY WAS IT NECESSARY FOR OUR SAVIOUR TO BE TRUE GOD? It was necessary for our Saviour to be true God:
