Forty Days Full - An Invitation To Real Life
Day Forty: A Joint Heir With Christ
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ...” (Romans 8:16-17a NKJV)
T hrough the Spirit of adoption, we have become the children of God. It's actually much better than getting adopted by the richest man in the world. Our inheritance is not limited to life on the earth. The reward that comes from this adoption will last forever. My Father is the largest landowner in the history of the world. My Father has so much gold He uses it to pave streets. My Father uses gemstones to decorate foundations. My Father has pearls so big He makes gates out of them. In heaven, I never have to fear that you'll take away what belongs to me. With an earthly inheritance the blessing is divided between siblings. The result is often fighting and bickering over who gets what. Because God's resources are infinite, there is no division of assets as in an earthly inheritance. Through the work of Christ, we get what He got...an infinite Kingdom of blessing. My mother is a very wise woman. She had to take care of four boys along with my Dad and we were always hungry. We were not a wealthy family, so I’m sure the grocery bill was one of the larger items on their budget. Mealtime was a race to see who could consume the largest quantities of groceries. There were often squabbles over someone not getting their ‘fair share.’ So there was a rule in our house established by my mother. If there was only one piece of pie left and two of us wanted it, one would cut it in half and the other would choose their portion.
