of serving Him, and when the enemy sweeps upon us, or natural calamities strike, a reserve power awaits to carry us through. I have found that we can “store up prayers.” When our prevailing prayers are active and continuous, we build a solid account in heaven’s bank which can be drawn upon in time of trouble. Fortunately, the Lord gives us “breathing spaces” between trials, and it is then that our consistent prayers become like savings deposits. Since this has been true in my limited experience, I can easily conceive that this sustaining power was wondrously pre- sent in the suffering Christ as He prayed on the cross. We Christians sing praises continuously for the dazzling victory of Christ on the cross. The rugged cross that was meant to be a torture rack and an instrument of death has become the symbol of God’s abounding grace and Christ’s greatest glory. Wesley Duewel observes profoundly: Have you realized how total was Christ’s victory at Calvary? It was a victory for us because Jesus took our place, bearing our sin on the cross. He paid the price for our redemption. He fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies and all the Old Testament types. Every sacrifice for sin fromAdam onward was accepted by God upon the condition of the final, per- fect, and holy sacrifice of Christ on the cross. So every sacrifice accepted by God from a repentant sinner was like one more debit, one more promisso- ry note which Jesus guaranteed to pay. Praise God! On the cross He paid it all! Calvary was an eternal victory for whoever wills to receive it (Revelation 22:17). 2 During His agony on the cross, Jesus spoke words of pro-
