prophets, and the spirit of fatherhood, it makes perfect sense that Elijah would ful fi ll his calling generationally and not personally. This is the same reason that God regarded Abraham so highly. Gen 18:17 “And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” God regarded Abraham so highly because he was a father who thought and acted generationally. Elijah also had this spirit. And it is this spirit of fatherhood upon which Jezebel has declared war. We can see it in our own society, where godly fatherhood has been under such demonic a tt ack for generations now, and this spirit of Jezebel is the main instigator. In the Old Testament Jezebel was thrown down by her own eunuchs, symbolizing those who cannot be seduced by her, and was killed by Jehu carrying out the word of Elijah. 2 Kings 9:30 “Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window. 31 Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, "Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?" 32 And he looked up at the window, and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" So two or three eunuchs looked out at him. 33 Then he said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down, and some of her blood spatered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.” Not only is it symbolic that the eunuchs, those who could not be seduced threw her down, but right up until the end her nature was to “paint herself” in order to be a tt ractive to Jehu, and then greet him with an accusation. He in turn ran over her with his chariot. Horses represent trained ministers, and in the paired horses of the chariot we can see the power over the demonic in teamwork Jezebel is the enemy of the prophets and the enemy of fatherhood. She will oppress and kill, when possible, those whom she cannot seduce and control. Yet it is the spirit of the prophets and fatherhood which defeats her. It is interesting that in Rev 20 when Jesus speaks of rewarding those who overcome Jezebel, He will reward them with the morning star. The morning star has come to represent the prophetic ministry and its rewards (Ma tt hew 10:41) in many ways, because the prophet is always looking towards the revelation of Christ dawning. Rev 2:20 “Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacri fi ced to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who 150
