apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,” As evangelists continue to equip the body of Christ to preach ( euaggelizo ) the gospel of the kingdom, the fruit of evangelism will continue to increase. The evangelistic fruit of glad tidings, good news, great joy, physical healings and power exercised over the powers of darkness will continue to increase. While Jesus was on earth He could only be in one place at any one time. Since His resurrection, and the giving of the gift of holy spirit to all believers, He can minister through any believer who follows His will. He healed the sick and raised the dead while physically present on earth, but today there are more people being raised from the dead, more cancers being healed, and more blind eyes being opened than when Jesus was personally in His earthly ministry. Because through the many members of the body of Christ He can be present wherever a willing saint will allow His spirit to bring the gospel of the Kingdom. Those granted the calling of evangelist will continue to increase and multiply their in fl uence upon Christians until the gospel is preached everywhere (Ma tt hew 24:14). ENDNOTES: 36 Jesus read from Isaiah 61:1-2, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,” But notably he stopped before reading, “And the day of vengeance …” Had he read the rest of the verse He would not have been able to say, “Today this Scripture is ful fi lled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21) as this was not completed on that day but was still future.
