Watchout For WOLVES: Keys To Discerning Authentic Ministries & Evaluating Doctrinal Trends
Also in 1 Peter 5:8, he wrote (NLT),
Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour.
Peter’s instruction here is to “Watch out!” Here are sixteen things for which we should “watch out . ”
1. Watch out for the word “new” especially when associated with “revelation . ”
History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. What can you point to that is new? How do you know it didn’t already exist long ago? Ecclesiastes 1:9-10, NLT Paul preached the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). He warned the Galatians about those who would add to the basic doctrine that he had taught (Gal. 1:6-10). There is something about people in that they always want something that is “new.” There is a feeling that new is better. In reality, the truth is the truth in every generation. I do believe it is important to keep the old fresh by the way we handle it and feed it to others. But the basics of Christianity are not going to change. They will safely navigate us to the return of Christ. God’s revelation to man is complete in the Word of God. The Spirit of God may bring new understanding or illumination concerning the revealed Word of God, but this new understanding cannot violate the proper, biblical principles of interpretation (See: Interpreting the Scripture course at my website: www.churchleadershipresources.com
It must represen t the word “rightly divided” (2 Tim. 2:15).
