PSALMS 84:12

2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. 3 1 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. 5 2 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. 6 3 I have said, 4 Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. 7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O 5 GOD , judge the earth: for 6 THOU shalt inherit all nations. P Psalm 83 A psalm of Asaph (See - II Chro 29:30) [Asaph was King David’s choir director - I Chro 16:37] Date Written - c. 1040 BC/AM 2960 1 Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. 2 For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. 3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. 4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. 5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: 6 The tabernacles of 7 Edom, and the 8 Ishmaelites; of 9 Moab, and the 10 Hagarenes; 7 Gebal, and 9 Ammon, and 11 Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 12 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the 13 children of Lot. Selah. 9 Do unto them as unto the Midianites; 15 as to Sisera, 16 as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: 10 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth. 11 Make their nobles like 17 Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as 18 Zebah, and as Zalmunna: 12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession. 13 O my God, make them like a 19 wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14 As the fire burneth a wood, and 20 as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; 15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. 16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD. 17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: 18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is 21 JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. Selah. 5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. 6 Who passing through the valley of 22 Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. 8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. 9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. 10 For a day in thy 23 courts is better than 24 a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the LORD God is a 25 sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. 82:5 When judges are unjust all of society is out of sync ( out of course ); for justice is the fundamental virtue of society. 82:6 Asaph refers his readers back to verse one ( I have said ) in which he reminds human judges that they are representatives of God in the courtroom ( Y e are gods ), appointed by God Himself to judge righteously (Rom 13:1). Although the word ' gods ' here is the same Hebrew word used for ' God ' ( Elohim) ..... it doe s not mean men can become ' gods ' ( Ezk 28:2b ). Asaph here was not claiming what some religious movements ( Mormonism and the New Age Movement ) claim –that men
