PSALMS 42:2

6 1 Sacrifice and offering 2 thou didst not desire; 3 MINE ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. P 7 1 Then said I , Lo, 4 I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, P 8 1 I delight to do 5 THY will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. P 9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. 10 I have not hid 6 thy righteousness within my heart; 7 I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation. 11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. 12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. 13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. 14 Let thembe ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil. 15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha. 16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. 17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, Omy God. READ NEXT - II Samuel 20:1-3 Psalm 41 A psalm of King David [Probably written when King David (60 years old) learned of Ahithophel’s betrayal - II Sam 15:31] Date Written - c. 1020 BC/AM 2980 1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor:

the LORDwill deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto 8 the will of his enemies. 3 The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt 9 make all his bed in his sickness. 4 I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. 5 10 Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall 11 he die, and his name perish? 6 And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. 7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. 8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. 9 Yea, mine own 12 familiar friend, in whom I trusted, 13 which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against 14 ME . P 10 But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. 13 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen. Psalm 42 Probably A psalm of King David [Written after King David (60 years old) hid from his son Absalom in Mahanaim - II Sam 17:26] Date Written - c. 1020 BC/AM 2980

1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living 40:6 According to Hebrews 10:5-9, this is a quoted conversation that CHRIST had with the FATHER . According to Hebrews 10:5, “ a body hast thou prepared me ” is understood to be part of this quote. 40:8 The fulfillment of this verse concerning CHRIST is mentioned in Matthew 26:39, Mark 14:36 and Luke 22:42. NOTE - “ I delight to do THY will, O my God ” does not mean that GOD THE FATHER is the “God” of JESUS CHRIST (or even Creator), as some cults teach. According to the Bible, the FATHER , the SON , and the HOLY SPIRIT are three distinct co-eternal persons, called the Godhead ( Gen 1:1 c and Rom 1:20 b ). They are all equally God and each O N E is worthy of our worship ( Jn 4:20-25 & Jn 9:35-38 and Acts 5:4 ). 40:12 David here is speaking of all the “troubles” ( innumerable evils ) that came upon him due to Absalom’s rebellion. 40:14 David knew that he would face even more enemies ( them ) upon his return to Jerusalem (II Sam 20:1). 41:1 God has always cared about the poor and needy (Psa 72) and promises to be a blessing to anyone who cares for them (Exo 22:25-27 & 23:3,6,10-11, Lev 19:9-10,15 & 25:8-55 and Deut 15:1-15 & 23:24-25 & 24:6,10-15).
