JOB 41:31
JOB 42:17
841
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary. 33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear . 34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride . Job 42 Job repents of his pride and confesses his sin Date - c. 1625 BC/AM 2375 1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said, 2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 3 1 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine 2 eye seeth thee. 6 Wherefore I abhor myself , and repent in dust and ashes. The LORD rebukes Eliphaz, Zophar, and Bildad 7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, 3 My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye 4 have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall 3 pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I
deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD command- ed them: the LORD also accepted Job. The LORD prospers Job 10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he 5 prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job 6 twice as much as he had before. 11 Then came there unto him 7 all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. 12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thou- sand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. 13 He had also seven sons and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of the first, 8 Jemima; and the name of the second, 9 Kezia; and the name of the third, 10 Keren-happuch. 15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. The death of Job
1. Job 38:2 2. Jn 20:24-29 3. Note - Those who accuse others lay themselves out to be “accused” ( My wrath is kindled against thee - Rom 2:1 and Mt 7:1-7). 4. Note - Those who misrepresent God ( have not spoken of me the thing that is right ) will one-day face God for their caricature (mis- representation) of Him. 5. or, “intercede; offer them forgiveness” 6. Jms 1:12 & 5:11 7. Job 19:13-19 8. meaning, “little dove” 9. meaning, “cassia” 10. meaning, “horn of antimony”
16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. 17 So Job died, being old and full of days. 42:6 Those who cannot “secure forgiveness for themselves” ( I abhor myself, and repent ) are in no position to forgive others (vs 10 and Lk 17:3,4b ). 42:7 After Job confessed his own sin (securing forgiveness for himself ), he was ready to forgive others (vs 10 and Mt 18: 21- 34 ). THE ADAGE IS TRUE: If you can’t find forgiveness for yourself, how are you going to find it for others ? Those who cannot forgive themselves: 1. place themselves in the place of God (Num 14:18 and Mt 12:31-32) If God forgives us and we do not forgive ourselves, we make ourselves greater than God. 2. are not God-like at all ; for He is always ready to pardon (Joel 2:12-13 and Neh 9:16-17) Holding something against yourself for which you have asked God’s forgiveness is a grudge God does not hold. 3. care little for others (Psa 51:16-17, Phil 3:13-14 and Job 42:7-10) Securing forgiveness for yourself isn’t just for you; it’s for the benefit of everyone around you. 42:8 People need us to fix our relationship with God (vs. 6) so that they can fix “their relationship with God” ( and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering - vs. 8-10). 42:10 God will not change our circumstances “until” ( when ) the circumstances that He’s allowed in our lives change us. Circumstances don’t make us what we are; they reveal to us who we are. READ NEXT - I Chronicles 2:21
