Nimrod builds eight cities in Shinar 8 And Cush begat 4 Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nim- rod the mighty 5 hunter before the LORD. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was 6 Babel, and 7 Erech, and 8 Accad, and 9 Calneh, in the land of 10 Shinar. 11 Out of that land went forth 11 Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Re- hoboth, and 12 Calah,

12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city. 10:8 Nimrod’s name means “valiant; strong.” Nimrod was a rebel who allowed himself to be worshipped as a god. He was later worshipped as Marduk, the god of Assyria. Alexander Hislop in The Two Babylons stated that the Babylonian Mystery Religion (Rev 17:1-5) was based on the worship of Nimrod. Hislop notes: It was to glorify Nimrod that the whole Chaldean system of iniquity was formed. 1 1 Hislop, Alexander. The Two Babylons , First published as a pamphlet in 1853.
