GENESIS GENESIS causing the earth’s foundation ( the fountains of the great deep ) to shift. Out of the upheaval came the seven continents, as we know them, thus leading us to conclude that earth’s landmass was once entirely connected. Alfred M. Rehwinkel in The Flood notes: 80

Soundings in the Atlantic Ocean between southern Europe and America have revealed the possibility of the existence of a prehistoric continent in that area which served as a bridge between Europe, Africa, and America. 1

Interestingly enough, there have been countless discoveries of what geologists call “rubble drift” (certain types of sediment consisting of massive, angular unrolled material tumultuously deposited in local pockets and catchment areas, generally full of shattered bones) within “ossiferous fissures” (great rents in the earth formed by some violent contortion of the surface of the earth). One such place is found at Agate Springs, Nebraska. Bones of rhinoceroses, camels, giant wild boars, and other foreign animals not indigenous to America are mixed together with thousands of other native animals, all buried together in a confused mass, as only water would deposit them. These “rubble drift” areas found all over the world suggest two things: 1. Earth’s entire landmass was all connected at one time How else did all kinds of animals from different parts of the world come to be buried together, if the continents were not somehow all connected? 2. Earth’s foundation was overthrown by a Deluge For what else could have driven all kinds of animals, which are ordinarily not found together as peaceful neighbors, such as bears, wolves, horses, and oxen, together on hilltops and caused them to perish in such numbers? Humanistic rationalists want us to believe that draught and other causes were the means of killing, collecting, and burying great numbers of animals almost instantly. However, there is only one known force in nature which is capable of destroying millions of animals all at once, and that’s water. 7:11b Some would argue that there was not enough water on our planet to cover the entire earth. However, the canopy of water (firmament - Gen 1:6a ) that God suspended above the earth on the second day to protect the earth from the destructive rays of the sun would have held enough water to flood the entire world. The Biblical expression “ windows of heaven ” is the Hebrew way of describing an incessant torrential rain pouring down upon the face of the earth. It has been estimated that a single cloud supplying four inches of rainfall over a territory with a radius of one hundred miles contains approximately nine billion tons of water. It is therefore likely that the water contained in the pre-flood atmosphere that hovered above the earth was equal to the total amount of water needed to flood the entire planet. After the “ windows of heaven ” were opened, thus removing the awning of protection (the firmament), and the four seasons began ( Gen 8:22 ), Greenland and Antarctica were formed. A.P. Coleman in The Last Million Years notes: If the water now stored in the form of glacial ice on Greenland and Antarctica alone were released, the volume of the sea would be raised by one hundred and fifty feet. 2 There is “more” than enough water on our planet in frozen form and above our planet in our atmosphere to have once covered the entire earth with a Flood. The question as to where the water came from and where it went to will only trouble those who hold extreme views as to the fixity of oceanic and continental levels. If the seabeds can rise (due to the windows of heaven being opened) and the continents sink (due to the fountains of the great deep breaking up), there is no difficulty whatsoever in finding enough water, even for a universal flood. 7:13 Noah’s wife is referred to 1 time in the NT (I Pet 3:20). 7:20 It is evident beyond a doubt that Moses intended to convey the idea that the Flood was a universal flood, that the entire world was covered with water, and that the Deluge rose to a height sufficient to cover the loftiest mountains of that day and time with fifteen cubits of water. 7:21 Given the fact that men lived ten times longer before the Flood than men after the Flood, statisticians (such as, Lambert Dolphin 3 and Alfred Rehwinkel 1 ) inform us that the population of the earth at the time of the Flood ( all flesh died ) was well over one billion inhabitants ( all flesh died - Gen 7:10 ).
