NEHEMIAH 9:10
14 And they foundwritten in the lawwhich the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the 1 feast of the seventh month: 15 2 And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written. 16 So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one 3 upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim. 17 And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of 4 Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness. 18 Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, 5 he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the 6 eighth day was a solemn assembly, 7 according unto the manner. 8 confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers. 3 And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the LORD their God 9 one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God. 4 Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, 10 Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the LORD their God. 5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. 6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; 11 thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee. 7 Thou art the LORD the God, who didst 12 choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, 13 and gavest him the name of Abraham; 8 And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a 14 covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous: 9 15 And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, 16 and heardest their cry by the Red sea; 10 17 And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants,

8:17 God is certainly long-suffering (Psa 86:15). It had been over 1,000 years since His people had observed the Feast of Tabernacles (Lev 23:33-43); but when they did, God gave them great joy. No wonder the Psalmist said in Psalm 34:8: “ O taste and see that the LORD is good : blessed is the man that trusteth in him .” God knew that keeping the feasts kept His people right with Him ( Lev 23:2 ). The following seven precepts, if obeyed, please God and bring about His joy: 1. Be willing to assemble yourselves together (Neh 8:1 & 9:1) - “ all the people gathered themselves together as one man ” (Heb 10:25) 2. Be willing to read the Word of God together (Neh 8:3 & 9:3) - “ And he read therein ” (I Tim 3:12-16) 3. Be willing to spend time together (Neh 8:3 & 9:3) - “ from the morning until midday ” (Exo 19:14-15) 4. Be willing to pray and bless the LORD together (Neh 8:6 & 9:6) - “ And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands, ” (Psa 34:2) 5. Be willing to worship together (Neh 8:6 & 9:6) - “ and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD ” (Jn 4:22-24) 6. Be willing to tithe and give an offering together (Neh 8:10) - “ Then he said unto them,Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared ” (Deut 26:10-13 and I Cor 16:1-3) 7. Be willing to fast together (Neh 9:1) – “ the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes ” (Lev 23:26-32 and Isa 58:3,5,6,9 ) NOTE – Does the preceding seven precepts sound like going to church to you?
