II KINGS 23:34
all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him. 26 Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great 1 wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that 2 Manasseh had provoked him withal. The promise of Judah and Jerusalem’s fall to Babylon (Fulfilled - II Ki 25 - 586 BC) 27 And the LORD said, 3 I will remove Judahalsoout ofmy sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there. P The death of King Josiah (Note - Josiah ruled Judah 31 years) 28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 29 In his days 4 Pharaoh-nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he 5 slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him. him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took 6 Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s stead. PF
1. Deut 29:20,27 2. II Ki 21:1-2 3. Fulfilled - II Ki 25 (Fall of Judah) 4. Note - Pharoah-nechoh reigned from 609 - 594 B.C. Note – According to historians, Pharoah-nechoh’s initial desire was to attack the Assyrians from behind as they fled from the pursuing Babylonians. However, when the Egyptians arrived at Carchemesh they realized the overwhelming power of Babylon and decided to assist the Assyrians against Nabopolassar and his son Nebuchadnezzar rather than go against them. Because Josiah believed the prophets concerning Assyria (Nah 1:1-2,8-10, Zeph 2:13 and Jere 46:1-6,10-12) and because he thought he could help God keep His word against the Assyrians, he attacked Pharoah- nechoh and the Egyptians who went to their aid. For whatever reason, Josiah (like Moses before him – Exo 2:12 ) was under the impression that God could use his help when it comes to God keeping His Word. He does not. God’s Word stands alone and no one can help Him keep it. We are called to obey it, not enforce it. 5. And his mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 32 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
