II KINGS 14:27

12 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents. 13 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, 1 four hundred cubits. 14 And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and re- turned to Samaria. Historical Note - Assyrian history continued c. 805 BC with the Old Kingdom Period in which Shalmaneser IV (c. 805-796 BC) assumed Assyria’s throne. No doubt, it was Shalmaneser IV who experienced revival under Jonah’s preaching. This event took place two years before Uzziah began to reign and twenty-five years before the prophet Jonah began to preach. After the death of Shalmaneser IV came Ashurdan III (c. 796-760 BC). (Note - This event took place in the 38th year of King Uzziah’s reign) Date - 765 BC/AM 3235 14:16 For whatever reason, Jeroboam II did not begin to reign “full time” ( in his stead ) until the 26th year of Amaziah (King of Judah) (c. 806 BC), sixteen years later. 14:21 Azariah’s (Uzziah) name means “strength.” He is referred to 2 times in the NT (Mt 1:8-9). Uzziah (Azariah) is the 22nd generation from CHRIST . 14:25 Jonah’s name means “dove.” Jonah is referred to 9 times in the NT (Mt 12:39-41 & 16:4 and Lk 11:29-30,32).
