I KINGS 22:3
The promise of death to King Ahab and Queen Jezebel ; of death to their seed (Fulfilled - I Ki 22:35,37,38 - 892 BC & II Ki 9:33,36 & 10:10,11,17 - 879 BC) 17 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. 19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou 1 killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth 2 shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. P 20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he an- swered, I have found thee: because thou hast 3 sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD. 21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, 4 and will cut off fromAhab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, P 22 And will make thine house like the house of 5 Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. 23 And of Jezebel also spake the LORD , saying, 6 The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. P 24 4 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the
dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat. P 25 But there was none like unto Ahab, which 7 did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. 26 And he did very abominably in fol- lowing idols, according to all things as did the 8 Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. 27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and 9 fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. 28 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 Seest thou how Ahab humbleth him- self before me? because he humbleth him- self before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: 10 but in his 11 son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house. P I Kings 22 King Jehoshaphat unwisely assists King Ahab against the Syrians (S/A - II Chro 18:1-11) Date - 895-892 BC 1 And they continued 12 three years with- out war between Syria and Israel. 2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 3 And the king of Israel said unto his ser- vants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead 13 is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the 14 king of Syria?

21:29 God loves when humanity practices “humility”… even if it’s only for a moment. According to Proverbs 6: 16- 17 , God hates pride. Pride defined is nothing more than a conceited sense of one’s own superiority. It’s the attitude, “I will do what I think is best for me.” Because of the peril of pride, God urges us not to take ourselves too seriously or to think of ourselves too highly (Rom 12:3), and begs us to learn the importance of practicing humility. Abbot Thomas Keating in Crisis of Faith notes: Humility is the whole-hearted acceptance of the fact that God owes us nothing and that we owe Him everything. 1 NOTE - According to the Bible, there are nine ways to practice humility: 1. Pray privately (II Chro 7:14) 2. Praise God and rejoice with those who rejoice in the LORD (Psa 34:2) 3. Practice fasting (Psa 35:13) 4. Properly react to the trials in your life (Deut 8:2-3,16) 5. Purposely remember your past trials and afflictions (Lam 3:19-20) 6. Properly react to discipline and chastening in your life ( Lev 26: 41- 43 ) 7. Practice childlike faith (Mt 18:2-4) 8. Purposely serve one another (I Pet 5:5) We need to learn to rank ourselves under others. Jesus did (Lk 2:51 and I Cor 15:28) –we should. John Maxwell in Everyone Communicates, Few Connect notes: Humility means knowing and using your strengths for the benefit of others on behalf of a higher purpose. 2 9. Properly react to the Word of God and confess unconfessed sin (I Ki 21:17-29, II Chro 12:2-12 & 30:1-11 & 33:10-23 & 34:27, II Ki 20:14-19 and Jere 13:15-18) 1 Keating, Thomas. Crisis of Faith .
