II SAMUEL 6:11

before me, as the breach of waters. There- fore he called the name of that place 1 Baal-perazim. 21 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them. King David defeats the Philistines again (S/A - I Chro 14:13-17) 22 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. 23 And when David enquired of the LORD, HE said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. 24 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines. 25 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philis- tines from 2 Geba until thou come to Gazer.

2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from 3 Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD OF HOSTS that dwelleth between the cherubims. 3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. 4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was 4 at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. 5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the LORD was kin- dled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 8 And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perez- uzzah to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? 10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

King David smites the Philistines - Map #157 II Samuel 6 King David (c. 39 years old) seeks to bring the Ark back to Jerusalem (S/A - I Chro 13:1-14) Date - c. 1041 BC/AM 2959 1 Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 11 And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obed- edom, and all his household. READ NEXT - I Chronicles 15:1 6:7 Although Uzzah and his brother Ahio were not Levites and therefore had no business even being near the Ark, in reality, it was more David’s “ error ” than Uzzah’s. King David made two mistakes concerning the handling of the ark of God: 1. He failed to remember that the ark was to be carried by two staves (Exo 37:1-4) Instead, David used a new cart (vs 3) to carry the ark. 2. He failed to remember that the ark was to be carried by the sons of Kohath (Levites - Exo 25:14-15 and Num 3:30-31 & 4:15) Instead of Levites carrying the ark, David had Uzzah and his brother Ahio (non-Kohathites) carry it. NOTE –There are a list of things that God wants us to remember... lest forgetting, it cost us dearly. He wants us to remember: (1) Our salvation (Exo13:3 and Heb 2:1-3); (2) The Sabbath ( Gen 2:2 , Exo 20:8 and Heb 4:10b & 10:25); (3) The commandments (Num 15:37-39 and I Jn 2:3); (4) Our unworthiness (Deut 9:6-7 and Rom 5:6-8); (5) The less fortunate (Deut 15:7-15); (6) Those things that oppose Him ( false religions , atheism , evolution , humanism , socialism , communism , etc. - Gen 3:15a , Phil 1:17 and Deut 25:17- 19); (7) All that He has done for us (Deut 32:1,7); (8) To serve Him as early in life as possible (Eccl 12:1); (9) The failures of others and to learn from them (Lk 17:26-32); and (10) To use the gifts He’s given us (II Tim 1:6-8).
