9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. Third Trumpet (The results of a possible asteroid - One third of all fresh water is contaminated) 10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a 1 great star from heaven, burn- ing as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the wa- ters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. Fourth Trumpet (The results of these cosmic signs - One third of all light is hidden from the earth) 12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise. 13 And I beheld, 2 and heard an angel fly- ing through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, 3 Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound! Revelation 9 Fifth Trumpet - First Woe 1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a STAR fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the 4 key of the 5 bottomless pit. 2 And 6 HE opened the bottomless pit;

and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came 7 out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nei- ther any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the 8 seal of God in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their tor- ment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

(Five months of torment) Date Written - c. AD 96 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a KING over them, which is the 6 ANGEL of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is ABADDON , but in the Greek tongue hath his name APOLLYON . 12 9 One woe is past; and , behold, there come two woes more hereafter. 8:11 Wormwood (meaning “undrinkable”) is a bitter herb (Deut 29:18). During the GREAT TRIBULATION ( DAY OF THE LORD ), God will cause the earth’s waters to become unfit for human consumption. 9:1 a This STAR is none other than Satan himself, referred to as " KING " and " ANGEL " in verse 11 (Lk 10:18 and Rev 12:12). 9:1 b According to verse 3, the locusts that will ascend out of the bottomless pit ( M ρεατος της αβυσσου - pit of the abyss ) are demonic. The pit of the abyss ( Lk 8:31 ) is that “subterranean place” lower than Hades known in the Greek as “ tartaroo ,” where divine punishment for those angels who had left their first estate are being held ( II Pet 2:4 and Jude 6 ). These “super destructive” demons are imprisoned in the bottomless pit awaiting the blast of the fifth trumpet when the lid of that vile abode will swing upon its hinges and they will be set free to torment men for five months (vs 5) during the GREAT TRIBULATION ( DAY OF THE LORD ). 9:2 THE ADAGE IS TRUE: Where there’s smoke there’s fire (Mt 5:22,29-30 & 13:42 & 18:9 and Rev 19:20 & 20:14 & 21:8) 9:3 The wound of a scorpion causes intense suffering (vs 5). It appears that these “super destructive” demons will inflict much pain and torment upon earth’s unsaved inhabitants. 9:11 a Normally locusts have no king over them (Prov 30:27). However, these locusts will. Why? Because these locusts are a picture of demonic armies who’s king is none other than Satan himself. 9:11 b “ ABADDON ” is Hebrew meaning “destruction.” “ APOLLYON ” is Greek meaning “destroyer.”
