1:17 John testified that he was overwhelmed with the presence of the glorified Jesus ( I fell at HIS feet as dead ), and that his physical senses were so subdued that he was rendered incapable of writing. Question is: If John was rendered unable to write Revelation, who did? According to tradition, Prochorus, an early deacon who eventually assisted John to the island of Patmos, is said to have penned the book of Revelation as John dictated it to him ( Acts 6:5 ). 1:18 According to the Bible “ death ” and “ Hell ” are partners (Prov 5:5 & 7:27 & 9:18 & 15:24, Isa 28:15,18, Ezk 31:17 & 32:21,27 and Rev 20:14). Death takes lives, and Hell holds them for judgment. 1:19a According to Revelation 1:19, there are some things in chapter one we should have already seen before moving on to chapters 2-22. Before we study “ the things which are ” (chapters 2-3) and “ the things which shall be hereafter ” (chapters 4-22), we need to study “ the things which we have seen ” (chapter 1). NOTE - There are seven doctrines in chapter 1 that we should have seen : 1. The Doctrine of CHRIST (Who He is, What He Did, What He is going to do - PSALM “MINI” SERIES) (Rev 1:1) 2. The Doctrine of Interpretation (How to understand the Scriptures - I Cor 2:13 ) (Rev 1:1) 3. The Doctrine of Meditation (The influence of Scripture - Psa 1:1-2 & 119:97-99 and Josh 1:8) (Rev 1:3) 4. The Doctrine of the Triune Godhead (The Trinity - Gen 1:1 c, 26 , Deut 6:4 and Rom 1:20 b ) (Rev 1:4-5) 5. The Doctrine of the Second Coming (One of five fundamentals to which all Christians must agree - Rom 14:1 b ) (Rev 1:7) 6. The Doctrine of the Church (Metaphors for understanding CHRIST'S Church - Mt 16:18 d ) (Rev 1:9-13,20) 7. The Doctrine of Hell (Hell holds no parties - Psa 9:17 and Lk 16:23,24,26 ) (Rev 1:18) 1:19b Doug Chatham in The Rapture Book notes:

In the original Greek text, the word “hereafter” was “meta tauta,” and meant “after these things”– that is, after these things pertaining to the churches. So, when we come to Revelation 4, we are being told that we will now be shown what God will do after the Church is gone. 7

NOTE – One of the best proofs of the Rapture occurring before the Seven-Year Tribulation Period is the fact that the Church disappears after chapter 3 and does not reappear until it returns with Jesus seven years later in chapter 19 ( Lk 17:27-28 – point #2). 1:20 Local churches are likened to candlesticks . A candlestick’s purpose is to hold up the candle (the LIGHT ) , so that the world can see “spiritually.” Local churches are supposed to “enlighten sinners” with the Gospel of CHRIST (Mt 5:14-16), not “entertain

saints” with programs. God is always more interested in the “spiritual” than the “social.” 1 Larkin, Clarence. The Book of Revelation , Lexington, KY, Forgotten Books, 1919, 2007.
